Here, the trench would be on somebody else's land

Relining is usually sold on tidiness. No mess, the garden left alone, done in a day. On most blocks that is a preference.

On a Radburn block it is a different argument entirely. The drain run frequently leaves the property and crosses a pedestrian walkway or a shared green, and that is common open space rather than part of your yard.

Excavating there means opening ground you do not own, obtaining permission from whoever does, and closing a path that other households use to reach their own front doors. That is a negotiation before it is a plumbing job.

And an excavator cannot reach the front of the house anyway, so the alternative is hand digging. A liner goes in on foot through existing access points, and the whole problem disappears.

Local relining guide

Relining a drain on a Campbelltown block

The run often crosses common open space

On a Radburn layout the shared walkways and greens sit between the houses, and drainage regularly runs out under them.

That land is not yours, so a trench there is somebody else's decision as much as your own, and it closes a route people use daily.

A machine cannot reach the front of the house

There is no vehicle access to the front on a back-to-front block. An excavator simply cannot get to the side the drain leaves from.

So excavation here means hand digging: slower, dearer and far more disruptive than the same job on a conventional block.

A liner walks in

The equipment goes in on foot through existing access points, which is exactly how everything else gets to these houses.

The layout of the block stops being a factor, which on these streets is worth a great deal more than the tidiness argument.

Sealing the joints is the actual repair

The liner leaves a continuous pipe with no joints along its length, and joints are where roots enter and gaps open.

It also gives back the flow an older line has lost to roughness and root intrusion, so the drain performs better than a patch would leave it.

Know where your boundary is first

If the failure is past your boundary it is not your bill, and that is worth settling before anything is scoped.

We locate the run and mark where it leaves the property, then put it in writing so you can hand it to whoever owns the rest.

What pipe relining costs in Campbelltown

Quoted at a fixed price off the camera footage rather than a guess. These are indicative 2026 ranges. Weigh them against hand digging a trench across a shared path and reinstating it.

One failed joint or a short damaged length, sealed without touching the rest.

Been quoted to dig up a walkway?

Get a camera down it first. Lining seals the same run through existing access, without opening ground that is not yours to open.

What is relining, in plain terms?

A resin-soaked liner is drawn through the existing drain, inflated so it presses against the pipe wall along the whole run, then cured until it sets hard. What results is a continuous pipe formed inside the old one, with no joints along the lined length. Joints are where roots get in and where corrosion opens gaps, so removing them is the point. The old pipe stays where it is and works as the mould.

Why does no-dig matter more on these blocks?

Because of where the trench would have to go. On a Radburn layout the run often leaves the property and crosses a pedestrian walkway or a shared green, which is common open space rather than your yard. Digging there means opening land you do not own, getting permission from whoever does, and closing a path other people use to get home. Relining goes in through existing access points and none of that arises.

Could a machine even get to the front of my house?

Frequently not, and that is the second half of the argument. On a back-to-front block there is no vehicle access to the front at all, so an excavator cannot reach the side of the house the drain runs from. The work would become hand digging, which is slower, more expensive and far more disruptive. A liner travels in on foot with the crew, so how the block is arranged stops mattering.

How long is the drain out of service?

A sectional patch is usually a few hours. A full run to the boundary is generally most of a working day. You get the window before we start so it can be planned around. Set that against excavation, which is days of open ground, plus reinstating whatever surface was over the top, plus a fenced hole in a space other people walk through.

Can an older drain be lined?

Usually. What rules it out is a section that has genuinely collapsed or been crushed, or one so far gone there is nothing left to press a liner against. A camera answers it before anyone quotes, and you get the footage either way. If lining will not work we say so rather than selling you one that fails, and then we talk about the smallest excavation that will actually do the job.

The damaged section is past my boundary. Who pays?

That is worth establishing before the work is scoped, and it is exactly why we locate the run properly first. Where the fault sits inside your boundary it is yours. Where it sits under common open space or in the public system, it is not, and you should not be paying to fix it. We put the location and the boundary in writing so you have something concrete to hand to whoever does own it.

What does relining cost in Campbelltown?

A sectional patch over one failed joint is about $900 to $2,200. A full run to the boundary is usually $3,500 to $7,000, priced on length, diameter and how many bends are in it. A camera inspection is $250 to $450 and comes off the reline if you proceed. Against hand digging a trench across a walkway and putting it all back, the comparison is not close.
